Established on February 1st, 1977, under the visionary patronage of Ven. Weeragule Sri Saranatissa Thera, Viharamahadevi Balika Vidyalaya was founded on a steadfast foundation of Buddhist values to nurture students of courage, wisdom, and moral integrity. The school was the brainchild of the late President J.R. Jayawardene, brought to life through the Herculean efforts of key figures such as former MP Mr. R.S. Perera, Director of Education Mr. P. Kariyawasam, and Circuit Educational Officer Mr. P. Piyasena. Guided initially by the eminent educationalist Mrs. Amara Wickramasinghe, the school has flourished over nearly 50 years of excellence.
